  • “Scratching” a video back and forth? (time remap)

Posted by Antonis Makrigiannis on February 7, 2011 at 6:09 pm

    Hello,

I am trying to achieve the effect of “video scratching” back and forth and sync this with the soundtrack…

    The point I am now:

I am using Motion Sketch to record back and forth movement with the mouse.
Then, using an expression, I am mapping this movement to Time Remap channel of the video I want to “scratch”. The effect works but I don’t have any visual feedback while I am scratching… I can only preview the result when the process is finished.

Does someone know any tool to achieve this video scratching in real-time AND of course record the result?

(I have played with VJaying programs which work quite nicely in realtime but when it comes to recording the result, it doesn’t work very well…

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Antonis

I don’t know of any way to do it in AE with real-time feedback. Using some sort of V-Jay setup is exactly what I was thinking, but you may need to tweak your setup as far as recording the output goes.
