[Walter Biscardi] “So how many people are jumping on that machine or waiting to see the Intel machines?”

Surely everyone who needs the best Mac hardware they can afford as of “right now”

Most all of us are well aware that the shelf life of highend workstation computer equipment is getting shorter and shorter. The faster the end user machines get, the more computations the software developers can demand of their apps, or otherwise rely on only the most ‘modern’ components … meaning we all need to upgrade our hardware with ever increasing frequency if we want to offer the latest and greatest facilities to our clients.

As it is over here in network tv land Hong Kong, we only just bought a pile of Dual 2.5’s, or so it seems, just a year ago … then just a few short months back we bought a pile more, though by then we were up to Dual 2.7’s … and right now we’re waiting on some Quad’s …. yet, before you know it they may all be antiques!!

I guess the bottom line is we need the best we can get as of “right now” … but I sure as sh!t hope they don’t drop support for the PPC too soon 😉

    Cheers

[Blub] “So the change over to the Intel stuff is hardly inviting for the first 6 or more months. What kind of boost in speed can we expect? The boost from the 68XXX series to the 601 PPC chips was almost nothing.”

Well, according to the Apple website, this is what comes with the current Dual Core Quad.

Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors. 1.25GHz frontside bus per processor

According to Dell’s Website, this is what comes with their top of the line Dual Core Pentium processors.

    NEW Intel

but, Avid always require you to capture to there codec and file format. Even still images. Vegas allows anything imported to the timeline, pics, audio, video and then it’s easier and faster to edit and playback. I get more work done instead of recapturing to one format, like Avid and many other NLEs require.

Vegas outputs to client monitor if dersired. Have you actually used or tried Vegas or are you commenting on hearsay?
