  • Scanning OMFI Files on Mac Formatted Drives

Posted by Ken White on March 3, 2009 at 5:24 pm

I am using Avid 5.7 on a PC running Windows XP. I also am running 5.8 on a Mac G5. I have two drives formatted for the Mac so I can consolidate projects to a drive that both systems can read.

Recently, when I’ve launched Avid, it freezes when it tries to scan the OMFI files on the Mac drives. I’ve never had that happen before.

    What could be causing it?

    Thanks,

    Ken

Very likely you have too many files in the folder. Should be under 10.000, preferable under 5.000, or else reading those mediafiles folders becomes a chore for the OS. This is even more true when using Mac drives on PC’s.

Makes sense. One of the drives is a terabyte, the other is 750 gigs. Is there a way to split up the files into different folders so it will be able to read them?

Maybe create an xOMFI MediaFiles folder and then re-link? That could take forever, but at least it would launch and recognize the drive.

    Thanks,

    Ken
