I have SONY Movie Studio Platinum 9 and DVD Architect 4.5. Both hang my whole system (PC) when I try to import a file from a CD (in Movie Studio) and when I try to author a DVD or Blu-ray (in DVD Architect) and will not let me kill them, even through Task Manager. They both respond with “Scanning for devices…” then hang. I have to power off my PC to kill them.

I have Vista 64, Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q8200 (2.33GHz), 8gb of RAM and a 1GB NVIDIA video card.

I have been emailing SONY back and forth with no success. I even downloaded and tried out Movie Studio HD 10, and it does the same thing with it, too. So, it’s something with me (my system).

    Any ideas?

Just a thought, have you tried updating your sound card (on board sound system) drivers. Video card drivers can be problematic too, If your on the latest drivers try an older version.
Drivers can be problematic for software utilizing the hardware on the system.
If you can try disabling the sound hardware (in bios if its on the motherboard) or the DVD/Blu Ray burner just to see if it might be the culprit.
Check the Device Manager for any non-working hardware also.
    Good Luck.
