Activity Forums Canon Cameras scam?

Where did you see it advertised? It showed up in the Miami Craigs List the day after you posted your question. The first story I got was he wanted to sell the camera to pay for cataract surgery. Then he said he is selling “open box and refurbished” products drop-shipped from the “factory”. Then he said he wholesales to eBay dealers. I found his address in Google Maps and it’s a house in a subdivision. Won’t say how many are available at this price. All kinds of mixed signals and warning flags….

There was another one in the Orlando Craigs List that was clearly a Nigerian scammer — said the camera was being held in a Miami warehouse (that does not exist) and the seller is in London. They keep using the same wording and wording mistakes, so they make it easy.

Canon-USA says their factory does authorize any dealers who do not have a “brick and mortar” business, and the Canon warranty is not honored for products which are not purchased from an authorized dealer. JR Thomas LLC is not on the dealer list (https://www.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/dealer/CanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf) and Google Maps shows the address for JR Thomas LLC as a house in a subdivision in Appalachia, VA. Canon USA advice: “stay away”. I’ve heard there are some online companies selling off-shore(China)copies of various cameras.
