    Hi,

This may be very easy but I can’t find a way around it! I’m using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 12.

I have a project that’s 1280×720. The main video is this size, but I have some boxes that are overlayed on the video (on another layer of course). Because the box isn’t 1280×720, I know that if I drop it in Vegas at its original size (516×200) then when I try and position it, it gets cut off and doesn’t allow me to move it all around the project window. I’ve always gotten around this by going into Photoshop, making the canvas of the item 1280×720 and placing the item (the box in this case) at its original size.

The trouble with this is, I now want to scale this item (which is placed in the top left hand corner) around ITS OWN centre rather than the centre of the canvas. When I use Event Pan/Crop, it always scales around the centre of the canvas and doesn’t stay in the top left! With the rotate tool, I can change the X and Y centre so that I can rotate around the centre of the box, but it doesn’t seem to let me do this for scale!!! I can’t think of a way around this – is there one??

    Thanks for any help!
    Chris

You don’t have to do this. Just open Pan/Crop, right-click on the frame and select Match Output Aspect and the event will conform to the project aspect.

It sounds like you may have positioned the box with Pan/Crop. You should position the box with Track Motion. Then you can scale with Pan/Crop and move into place with Track Motion.

I usually prefer John’s method, using track motion, however, if I understand your needs correctly, and just so that you are aware of it, whilst using the pan/crop facility you can click and drag the ‘centre’ of the pan/crop to wherever you want it and do your scaling/rotating in that window.
    Hope this helps.

That’s the great thing about Vegas Pro. There is usually more than one way to achieve a desired effect.

    Hi John,

Would you be able to assist in my problem in an earlier thread? It’s a few below this one. I would really appreciate it and if you need further info I’m happy to provide. 🙂

    Thanks!
