  • Scaling keyframe distance….like in Maya…

Posted by Stanley Flomin on April 24, 2009 at 3:08 pm

A bit difficult to describe but is there a way to ‘scale’ keyframes distance between each other. I know Maya and 3dsmax have this feature and I’m fairly certain I’ve done it a long time ago in AE but don’t remember how.

What I mean by scale the distance of keyframes is this, I have multiple layers with many keyframes, I’d like to increase the distance of all the selected keyframes from each other by a proportional amount….is there a way to do this?

    Thanks in advance!

If I got it right all you have to do is select all keyframes e and ALT + click and drag the last one. (or first depending on your way)

    Hope it was it.

    Cheers.

what you say works however, unfortunately it only works with one layer at a time, i have like 30 I need to scale at the same time, I guess I’ll have to precomp and time remap 🙁

Weird. It works here. I have been doing it for several years now and alway was able to make it happen.

    I´m on CS3 now.

    Good Luck.

    Cheers.

ok I figured out why it wasn’t working, apparently you have to select the “last’ keyframe of the very furthest out of all the layers selected, otherwise you’re just moving them all….many thanks!

Adriano’s suggestion is a good one. It’s also described in the “Expand or contract a group of keyframes in layer bar mode” section of After Effects Help.

You can get even more control in the Graph Editor. You can select a group of keyframes and then scale, move, taper, and otherwise transform the free-transform bounding box around them. See “Edit multiple keyframes in the Graph Editor”.
