    I use an external NTSC monitor unless it’s a web-only project

    You should still use one so you can see the final product of your encoded project. The Canvas won’t show you that, no matter how you are finishing.

    Scaling in FCP5 is a huge improvement over FCP4.5

    Although I haven’t used version fcp5 I have been forced to do my scaling in After Effects.
