I have a problem with scaling down in after effects cs4..
I am scaling my video in afx by simply dragging the corner handles proportionally down. But after exporting to .FLV using the render queue my final movie gets very bad quality, blurry and pixelated. I’ve tried to increase the bitrate but it doens’t help! Any suggestions on how to scale down would really, really be appreciated! thx

render to an uncompressed format and encode your flv in another program. AE is not the greatest compressor.

You shouldn’t have to scale down your movie in a comp if you wanted to render out to a smaller rez with Flash.

If you have a 720×486 rez comp, then just render that and let Adobe Media Encoder take care of the scaling and encoding. This shouldn’t result in a better quality movie but at least it saves you a step.

What settings are you using for the Flash movie and what are the other specs that you have set. Increasing the bitrate should increase quality. Whether the improvement is visible is another story as the source footage and the increment in the bitrate settings are also crucial variables.

I’ve found the problem.. And I must say, I feel a little stupid!
As it is a .flv with transparency, I can only preview the movie in the right quality in my flash template. I have a small and a large template for a small and a large video and of course I put the small video in the large template, which means the video stretches! sry for wasting your time 🙂
