  • Scaling a solid to an audio waveform using expressions.

    Posted by Timmy_allen on November 13, 2006 at 12:24 am

    Hello. I have a solid on my comp that is masked out in the shape of lips. I want the lips to scale up and down with the audio waveform to give the impression that the character is speaking the audio. I have done this before using expressions, but forgot how to get it done. Any help would be great to remind my forgetful brain.

    Here’s an Adobe Support Tut, Using Music to Animate Text:

    https://studio.adobe.com/us/tips/tip.jsp?p=1&id=396&xml=aft6audio

    To interpolate the audio levels to Scale sizes you like, you can use an expression like this on the scale of your “Lips” layer:

    s = linear(thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”),1,12,100,300);

    [s,s]

    The interpolation says, for audio levels (at the Slider) of from 1 to 12 (my audio ranged from .3 to 12) interpolate that to a scale of from 100% to 300%. So audio of 1 = 100% and audio of 12 = 300% scale. Change the numbers to suit your audio levels and scale desires.
