Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Scaling a clip

  • Posted by Randy Johnson on April 23, 2007 at 6:17 pm

I must enlarge a series of clips that are all HDV to 240%…as you can guess it looks terrable. Most of the close ups look good but the wide shots are un accecptable.
What is the best way to scale these clips up…or fix them afterward?

    thanks
    Randy

Are you editing in an HDV timeline or some other format? What is the final destination format (SD or HD)?

The final version will be 3500*768 and projected from Dataton Watch Out by four projecters.

I have been working at this project for a couple months now and nearly everything is finished but I have a few clips that I have been unable to avoid this enlargment issue.

I have this sequence on a custom timeline 1750*384 using uncompressed as well as a basic HDV 50i timeline.

The 1750*384 timeline lets me see the shape of the screen but is limited when it come to exports.

The HDV line is where the clips were edited.

I have tried bringing these clips into Watch Out and enlarging there but to no avail.

Well as you know there are some serious limitations working in HDV. I recently did a similar project in 2559 x 480. You could try capturing these scenes using the component out from your HDV device (Camera or Deck) and using a capture card like the Kona or Blackmagic. When you do that I recommend using the Sony HD CAM for maximum resolution in capture. Another option is to make a digital clone of the HDV scenes that you need. Send these to an outsource company that has a Teranex Xantus. Those devices (and competing devices) are great for up res. Let them up res the footage. They can even probably provide you with Quicktimes in the proper files types as well.
