am using lots of split screen. the images are scaled from anywhere between 20% and 60%, and there are two to three images onscreen at any one time. the footage looks quite poor when scaled down.is there anyway of improving the look of the scaled down footage? i’ve tried with some digibeta footage and the scaling is barely unoticeable so assume the problem is a drawback of shooting dvcam. ?
all the footage was shot on pal dv cam, all setting are on full quality etc. i’m using a (great) plug-in called dh_box to control the boxes. am running 4.5 on a g5.
any ideas?

July 26, 2005 at 12:29 pmDV / DVCAM is a compressed format and scaling down images in that format requires a lot of finessing with the Video Flicker, De-Interlace and even some light blur to get rid of the interlacing / artifacts issues with DV / DVCAM footage.
FCP 5 does do cleaner scaling than FCP 4.5 though.

July 27, 2005 at 9:30 pmScaling is vastly improved in FCP 5. I suggest you upgrade or do scaling in Motion, AE or even LiveType.
