  • Scale up characters with “Scale up” + add delay

    Hi there.
I’m having a hard time with what should be a simple problem:

I have a text layer containing 2 lines with 2 and 4 words on each line.
I want the characters to make a smooth scale up.
I’m using the effect “Scale Up” and it looks pretty good. The characters contain their position (much spacing in the beginning when small) and scale up nice (to normal spacing).

    But here’s my problem:
now ALL characters scale up at exactly same time. I want a tiny delay so that the first character in the first row begins and the rest follows with a delay of something like 3 frames.

I’ve tried with the offset option and start/end, but this does not help at all.

Any ideas what can be done to make this happen?

    Allt the best,
    ~ Johan

    Thanks
    ~ Johan

Here’s one way. Create your two text layers and add the “Scale Up” preset. Twirl open the text, and remove the “scale” keyframes, set the scale to 0%. Open the range selector > Advanced and change the Mode to Subtract. Change your “End” to 0%, count the number of characters in your text, multiply by 3, move that far down the timeline and set your end to 100%

Here’s an example project to check out: 7337_scaleup.aep.zip

    Hi, John

Thanks so much for replay and file. That was exactly what I wanted, but I wonder if there is a way to have the coming character start to appear even though the letter before aint full scale yet?
    Does that make sense?
This way if played rapid it will look even more smooth.

    EDIT ————

So, I was a bit quick on this answer. I tweaked around with the Amount value. That + your help got me exactly what I wanted.
