Scale multiple cllips in the project panel?

Hi all,

Is there a way of applying a set scale to multiple clips within the project browser? – so when they’re viewed in the source window they already have the scale applied…

My situation is this:

We have ProRes transcodes shot on Alexa full-frame (4×3), giving us pillarboxing at the sides. This is fine, and expected.

I want to permanently scale these clips by 133%, to give us our 16×9 image.

I can do this on the timeline of course, but then I’d have to do that every time I cut a clip into the timeline…

I hate to say it, but “I used to be able to do this in FCP!” Really hoping there’s a way to do it in PPro…

Hi…
Hi…

1) open the source material form the project panel into the source viewer
2) go to effecters controls
3) see the word “master” at the top of the window (indicating master clip)
4) in your effects tab find “transform” in the distort category
5) drop it on to the effects control panel
6) scale to taste

now every time you use that clip in a sequence it will have that scaling applied….

if you adjust the master, all uses will update….

Thanks for the response!

As it happens, I’ve eventually worked my way round to a similar solution… Instead of the Transform effect I went for Basic 3D, and set the Distance To Image to -25.

This might actually be a better solution in the end – as the Basic 3D effect is listed as an “Accelerate Effect”, it should render faster than the Transform one, yes? It does seem a bit faster after a bit of tinkering.

Adobe should really allow native scaling within the Motion tab… That would be a more elegant solution!

Well they do offer scaling….in prefs.

your gotcha is that you want to maintain the native aspect ratio within 16:9 frame…

Alex you’re on the right track here, but there’s a quicker way to skin this cat. Take any clip and apply the Distort-Transform effect to it and scale to 133%. Highlight and right click on that effect in the Effect Controls panel and save it as a preset. Then highlight all the clips you want in the Project Panel and drag that preset into the window onto any one of the clips you have highlighted and that effect will be applied to all that are highlighted.
