  • Saving Project with media Problem???

I have a hugh project (128GB) on my media Drive whitch is a Raid 0 2TB so I can get preformance. Most but not all of my media was on this drive. So I understood that you can now save project with media to a drive and it will not duplicate media that already exsists on that drive. So I saved as (new name)with all media to the raid drive -( for thepurpose of getting all the media together on my preformance drives) and it DUPLICATED all the files!!!!!! What did I do wrong – other than think!!!!!
    help please.

    I7 2.8 Ghz 8GB Ram (Over Clocked to 3.35Ghz)

Where does it say that Copy media with project doesn’t make duplicates? It certainly does. You should only use this option in a clean folder for archiving or moving to another computer. Never use this option in a folder that has existing project files. (you’ve already seen what a mess it makes)

Gary Rebholz said in the Vegas 9 training Series ” a new improvment with Vegas 9 (that I assumed would be the same with Vegas 10),
Gary says speaking of saving project with media quote:
“we have made a very important and helpful improvment to how it works – look at your saved media folder – it now contains the original vegas pro project file and the new one you just saved – the improvment I talked about is subtle but very helpful- in previous versions you would end up with exact duplicates of original files – this duplication was unnecesarry and was a drain on HD storage – files that reside in folders that are nested in the folder that your are archiving your project ARE NOT DUPLICATED” end quote from vegas training series 9
I copied my project into exactly the same folder and it duplicated everything and added the new files? What did I miss understand.???
    Thank U

This “copy media with project” feature only works with DV AVI, uncompressed AVI, Sony YUV AVI, and CineForm AVI files.
Because of the lossy nature of other video formats, those video files will not be trimmed, but will simply be copied to the project folder.

I’m not sure what Gary was referring to but it’s not a behavior I have ever seen. I just tested this and Vegas Pro 9.0e made duplicates of all the files. Maybe you should send Gary an email and ask him to explain.
