  • Saving Bin Folder Layout to Set Up Automatically in New Projects

    Hey All!

So I’m obsessively organized and it works really well for me as an editor. I have a bin structure that I came up with that accommodates just about every project and I wish I could somehow automate setting it up in new projects to save me that step. I’ve tried having the folders all created on DropBox and trying to drag them into the project window of a new project, but to no avail. It only imports some and does not maintain the hierarchies (folders within folders.)

Any ideas on how to streamline something like this?

What version of PPro are you on?

Hierarchies do seem to be working for me as 2014…

Create a master project with your bin structure and save it as Master Project. Later, when starting a new project, open Master Project and do a Save As retitling it as whatever you’d like.

Woo that’s a great idea! (Why didn’t I think of that?)

I’m on this! I can make hierarchies in my bin structures in Premiere…I’m just talking about when I try to copy a folder set up from a Finder window on OS X…doesn’t maintain hierarchies from there when it comes into Premiere.

OK…I wasn’t sure if you were trying to make the file system match the bin structure.

+1 with David and master projects.

Been doing this for years. You can go further than that by creating a master folder with sub-folders and included reusable assets as well, (Including Audition and AE projects). Whatever it takes to avoid re-creating stuff and staying organized. Just copy and rename the root folder as the new project name.

However, when you go that route and wish to use Project Manager to reduce/archive finished projects, it will ignore the folder structure and just dump everything into one folder. Memory is cheap. I just copy the entire folder over to an offline drive.
