sata deskstar slow write but reads fine
Hi
I have a 4 bay box and am using 4 deslstars as raid 0. I have been getting hangs on capturwe and copying onto the array, so i tore it apart abd found one of the four drives had really slow write speeds, like 10. mB/s as opposed to 65 or so for the other three
so is this hardware? or some internal drives ROM setting? its a promax array but i may be out of warrranty

Bob,
Check directly with Hitachi on the WEB. You should be able to check the warranty on the drive on their website if you have the serial number. They may replace the drive using their “quick ship” program if you give them a credit card number as collateral.
Also, try running Disk Warrior on the array. Raid-0 has no issues with DW.
Meanwhile, I would also think about calling Promax. They might have a solution, such as a loaner, if you press them a bit.
