So where are these guys? I haven’t seen hide nor hair (hare?) this year and I thought this was the next big thing? I see some controllers on the market – are RAIDs from Caldigit, G-Raid, MAXX etc imminent or is this going to be a 2011 kind of thing? Bob?

Things are not going well with our tests. Everyone says “I am not going to buy nothing, until this new stuff comes out”. Well, if I were you, I would not hold my breath. There is a nice Creative Cow press release from ATTO that they have the Toshiba SAS (not SATA) 6 gig drives working, but this is expensive, and requires a specific chassis (the ones we tried didn’t work well).

So, like always, buy what you need now, and MAYBE – just maybe, sometime in 2011, this stuff may be real. It aint’ up to me, and it ain’t up to ATTO or Areca – until Hitachi, Seagate, and Western Digital (and maybe Samsung and Toshiba) release a real working drive, it’s all nonsense for now. I have learned a long time ago – never believe the sales hype (I still get caught up in it). Buy what you need now, and don’t hold your breath for 6 Gig.

Thanks for the honest update. I’ll just be upgrading the drives in my current system…we’ll see how NAB 2011 looks.
