So I have a Western Digital external drive with a ton of footage and a couple of FCP projects on it. I can open jpeg files but can’t open any .mov files or the FCP projects without it hanging. So WD told me I need to reformat the drive. OK, but I need to copy the stuff on the drive somewhere first….so here’s my question. Can I dump the stuff in my Sandbox and copy the 58gb of stuff from the crapped out drive to the Sandbox without causing even more trouble? Thanks.

There is NO way for anyone to answer that. If the drive is physically failing it is possible it will corrupt your data, but then again if the drive is failing you should at least try.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
