Just a simple question about how ethernet based SANS, such as Maxx Final Share, are connected. What cable runs do I need? I assume one seperate Cat5 connection between each client and the Switch, and 4 independent cables between the switch and the server/storage?

yes – simple CAT 5e or CAT 6 cables are all you need. This applies to all the ethernet based systems from Maxx Digital, Small Tree, EditShare, Apace, and the others. Some companies have the multiport ethernet card hidden in their boxes (like EditShare), others just have it in the MAC (if they use a MAC for the system), which hooks up to the same managed switch.

One cable per client is all it takes.
