    Hi,

I am currently editing in FCP SD as well as HD.

Mac monitors are pretty expensive in South Africa. I looked at getting Samsung 2232GW monitors at half the price of mac.

    Are the Samsungs any good?

    Desperate……

For a second monitor, sure. But we’ve had a few samsungs in here and they just don’t have the proper contrast like the Dell’s and Macs for sharp text and sharp interfaces. If you don’t want to buy Apple, buy Dell, but the higher end Dell’s, not the cheap ones. They are probably the same Samsungs in a different shell.

We’ve got a Samsung on our MacPro – it’s nice, but it’s a bit contrasty and red, and I can’t quite seem to get it just right. Certainly no good for judging grades or whatever, but we have a broadcast monitor for that.

I’m pretty sure it can be good, but the issue is calibrating it just right, and without the aid of a calibration probe I think it will be a challenge (I’ve certainly been unable).

That said, it’s better than the AOC 22 was on the same computer.
