I’m just learning to use DVD Architect Pro. I’m planning to use it instead of Roxio DVDit Pro HD which I’ve become very dissatisfied with. I need to learn the details of creating a menu in Photoshop and importing it. Does someone have a sample PSD file that I could use as a reference?
    Thanks in advance.

Do you want to do a layered PSD with all the menu elements separate or a custom highlight mask, which is made up of one flat menu and a mask for creating highlights? Personally, I find the latter much simpler to create and work with. The layered PSD is more for if you need to use it over and over and want to customize individual elements later.

Here’s a tutorial on creating a custom highlight mask.

Thanks, Rob, this was extremely helpful. We’re a non profit org producing 1-2 new DVDs per month. The DVDs contain talks by a teacher and have subtitles in 8 languages. We typically have submenus for each language for chapter selection.

    Here’s the question:
We want the text to change color when selected, rather than have box around the text change color. How do we do that with the highlight mask approach? Or do we need to go the more complex individual layered button approach. If we need the layered button approach, do you have or know of a tutorial for this? If not, do you have a sample of a button which is text wherein the text changes color when selected.
    Thanks again.

Whoops. Sorry, I didn’t see that you had replied.

Well, when you create your menu background, you could make a layer that’s just the text, duplicate that layer, and use the duplicated one as your mask. Just be sure to make it grayscale.

But, really, it sounds like you just want to set your highlight style to “Text mask overlay” — a basic setting in the Button properties window. No need for custom-anything.
