were really stuck here and going nuts!!

we work in FCP off two Macs, using avi DV originally files captured for adobe premiere…

the problem is one of the macs opens and plays the avis fine, although they do need rendering,
however the other mac will only play the avis within the finders preview – when we try and open them in quicktime or import into FCP it says: error, file unrecognised

this is totally illogical – we wonder if there is some hidden switch or our software is corrupt, tried re-installing FCP – same prob! might try re-installing Quicktime but dont think this will work

Sounds like one computer has a codec that the other one douse not.

I would not want to work with files that you have to render every time you make a simple change anyway.

I say ether recapture or convert them to quicktime files.

Download M-peg Streamclip for free (Squared5.com) then download Apple M-peg 2 for $20 and convert a wide variety of files to Quicktime.

I mostly use these components to open and convert DVD video files, so that I don’t have to play DVD discs from a separate player into my computer to capture video. But as you will see, there are many other conversion choices with these components.

    Good luck.
