    Hi,

For 8bit PAL, RGB values from 16-235 are safe for broadcast.
Does anyone know these values for 16bit HD?

    There are some standards:
    ITU-R Recommendation BT.709-5
    R103-2000

but both seem to live in the analog domain, talking about microvolts and ranges from -1% to 105%.

What I would like to have and spread is the digital safe values for 16bit (full range = 0 – 32768).

    Thanks a lot!

    Thanks for your solution, Dave!

I was wondering if there are other values around. I can imagine that digital HD is somewhat more tolerant than analog PAL…

    Found this clipping indicator solution:

It’s for SD, but seems to work for HD as well.
Still not very satisfying. I want values to put in an Adjustmentlayer, or an AE-plug that works for HD.

What about AE’s color settings? When I set my profile to 709, the output is visually less extreme, but the ‘clipping indicator’ still tells that the whites are illigal…

Why is this such a mystery?
