  • Running a 32-bit plugin with Vegas 64-bit

Posted by Lee Shapiro on February 10, 2010 at 9:01 am

Sorry, I’m sure this question has been asked before (I did a Google search and a search here in the forum, but couldn’t find anything)
But is there any way to run a 32-bit plugin within Sony Vegas 64-bit.

I read somewhere that it’s just a matter of placing the plugin file in the right directory. I tried putting the .dll file for “Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks 1.2” into the Sony Vegas sub-directory called (x86), but that didn’t work.

I’m sure you can guess my problem. I am doing a project in Vegas 64-bit (along with some 64-bit plugins) but if I try to open the same project in the 32-bit version (in order to use Magic Bullet) I lose the use of the other 64-bit plugins.

Any suggestions, comments? Or am I S.O.L.?

    Thanks,
    Lee

    No.

I suggest you work with the 32-bit version of Vegas only. There is no 64-bit plug-in that I’m aware of that doesn’t have a 32-bit version so it should all work in the 32-bit version.

    Or am I S.O.L.?

If you insist on using the 64-bit version, I afraid you are definitely S.O.L. there is no way to get 32-bit plug-ins to work with the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro.

    Thanks for your response John.

Yep, that’s what I figured. I reinstalled all my NewBlue plugins to the 32-bit version, opened my project and happily continued my work using my new (32-bit only) plugins.

I tried to see if I noticed any difference in performance. I think I noticed some lagging during some transition efx, but it was 3:00 in the morning so it might have been my brain lagging.

    Thanks again.

I have a bunch of NewBlue Plug-ins (Video Essentials 1,2,3, Cartoonr and Light Rays) and I know they have versions available for Vegas Pro 9 64-bit. You might try downloading the latest version of your plugin(s)
