  • Rumor Apple to introduce new PMs by Wednesday

Some of the rumor sites are reporting seeing new pms being shipped to apple stores. Hopefully they are good upgrades. I’m not going to upgrade until I see some significant speed performance. Like a nice 2 dual layer processor. Apples been stuck in the water for almost 2 years with the 2Ghz processor. 2 years ago Steve jobs promised a dual 3Ghz but looks like the cooling issue was a big problem.

Well, hold on there skippy… Today is the day that some rumor sites predicted would be the unveiling of the said “new power macs” but please do not be disappointed if today is not the day, nor if the upgrades are up to expectations. They are only rumor sites after all.

Now, truth be told, I would be completely giddy if we broke 3Ghz. The rumors indicate that this won’t happen, but you never know what this means. Is Apple fueling the rumor mill with low expectations to make the blessed event all that more explosive? Or are the rumors just that? I’ve got a dual 2Ghz that I bought in `03. I’m not too worried about it. I am still trying to sell the older G4 system. 🙁

I’m still running a dual 1Ghz MDD G4. Upgrading to ANY G5 model would be a big improvment. 🙂
    I’m watching…

Tell you what, when I jumped from G4 Dual 1.25 to my G5 2.0 it was light night and day so you will move into “ludicrous speed” when you make your jump. 🙂

Amazon seems to have inadvertantly leaked the details. Dual 2.7, 16X dual layer burner, etc.

Doesn’t look like much of a price change but you get much more machine. Slightly larger drives and the dual-layer (dual side?) burner. No additional RAM and I can’t find specs on the video cards.

It will all be academic tomorrow, just got this just a few minutes ago from Think Secret:

According to sources, new Apple Power Macs have already begun shipping to select Apple retail stores in the United States. The models spotted were dual 2GHz, 2.3GHz, and 2.7GHz. All three versions reportedly sport new dual-layer DVD burners. The dual 2GHz configuration reportedly includes 512 ram, a 160 hard disk, and a 128MB ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card.
Apple is expected to make CPU-related announcements as early as Tuesday (though one source says the new Power Macs may debut on a Wednesday) . Reports also suggest the company may be in the process of updating the majority of its CPU offerings to include Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger as the default operating system. While iMacs and eMacs are now reflecting ship times of 5-7 business days, the remainder of Apple’s CPU product lines are also showing extended times today (of 1-3 business days). Apple last introduced new CPU hardware on January 31st when it announced faster Power Book G4 laptops.

    Dual-layer, *not* dual side.

    Ah, yes. “ludicrous speed”
I’m laughing at my mental vision of Dark Helmet right now.
Haven’t seen that movie in years.
    Thanks for the chuckle, Walter.
