I have a project coming up where a client needs basically a rubick’s cube type animation. I saw an old post here where someone proved that they could do it, but what I need is a step by step tutorial..Does one exist? or can someone throw one together really quickly? HELP. project is due in a week. Thanks.

Try searching for RUBIK RUBIKS and RUBIX. All generate long lists.

I wish you tons of luck but unless you are REALLY good at 3d, expressions and parenting, you are not going to get this out in a week.

Do you have a possibly alternative design suggestion?

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

One rotation is easy, but doing a second or third one on a different axis is hard. In other words, making one cube that can do all the axis changes is very hard.

Try faking it, by rendering one turn multiple times separately, quickly, with blur, change the images, then dissolve them together quickly. It’s fakery, it’s not realistic, but it gets the job done really quickly.

Sorry, I did this a number of years ago with lightwave — not AE.

Someone had posted a solution awhile back. Search the posts and see if it comes up. He posted the A.E. prj file.
