rubber band effect between two objects
Posted by Steven J casey on April 5, 2013 at 3:39 pmCan someone point me in the direction of a tutorial or script to achieve this effect? I have a logo in center and need several other logos to fly out from behind. I’d like them to appear tied to the center logo using 3D stroke (or 2D if that’s what will work) and bouncy as though it’s bungee cords or rubber bands. I haven’t figured out how to link the end points from logo to logo so that the stroke locks in and follows on each end whenever they bounce or move.
Thanks

April 5, 2013 at 3:53 pmHere’s one, easy way to do it with a very inexpensive Script, called Ease and Wizz (you will need to create the connections, maybe using the Pick Whip in an Expression:
https://aescripts.com/ease-and-wizz/
And if you really want to control everything, you’ll need to delve into Expressions:

Elastic Connection should do the trick…

April 5, 2013 at 4:22 pmAny idea how to link the ends of the stroke to each object so that it appears to be the bungee cord? That’s the conundrum I can’t get my head around. I’ve been trying pick whipping things together but haven’t found the combination that works.
Thanks again.

April 5, 2013 at 4:31 pmI’m under the impression that the stroke has no “end” as such, since it’s merely a stroke created by 3D Stroke, and relies on the mask or path for its’ beginning and end. Maybe you need to pick whip the ends of the path to get it to work.
Otherwise, the Beam effect is commonly used for this, since it actually has points at the beginning and end, which can be accessed in Expressions.
There’s another really nice, inexpensive script called LinesCreator:
This will do most of the heavy lifting for you, short of the rubber band effect, which can be done with keyframes, or using the second link I gave you above.

April 5, 2013 at 5:09 pmLines Creator is looking like exactly what I need, heavy lifting included. Thank you sir!

April 5, 2013 at 7:09 pmthe beam effect would be another possibility, if the layers are 2d you can use the expression pickwhip to link the ends of the beam to the layers.
if they are 3d layers, then you can use dan ebbert’s 3d-corner-pin expression to handle the layer-space transforms (sounds complicated, but it’s a simple expression):

April 5, 2013 at 8:06 pmHere’s a script I did which ties a line between two objects, as well as provides a gap if you prefer not to have the line touch either object:
