  • RT or Unlimited RT, that’s the question

Hi from Spain. I would like to apologize my poor english, sorry.
Well, I need to understand what RT and Unlimited RT are.
I’ve got a sequence in HD 960×720 at 24fps. When I put some effect or transition I can’t see it at the moment, so I need render. I konow I can choos to unlimited RT to see the effects at the moment, but in my sequence that’s not appear that option. I click on RT and appears Play Base Layer Only and Record To Tape.

    Why I can’t change it?

    Thanx.

You must select Unlimited RT in your timeline and then you need to have fast enough drives to support that in order for it to work. If your drives are not fast enough to support video playback + realtime playback of the effect, you will need to render the clip.

If you have “Play Base Layer” only selected in your RT Drop Down list, then FCP will ignore the effects and simply play the original base clip.

    Hi! Thanx for your reply!
I’m thinking that my problem is because ‘m working with the Kona Lhe presets.
I create a new project using that presets and the same presets for the sequence. So, when I import a clip and I put it on the timeline I’ve got a grey bar, so I don’t need render, all It’s Ok. But when I use some filter and transition needs render.

    Why?

I cant’ choose Unlimited RT because it’s doesn’t appear. Why doesn’t appear?

    Thanx!

[ROSFER] “But when I use some filter and transition needs render.”

that’s probably because you’re set to Safe RT and not Unlimited RT. I have no idea why you would not be able to select Unlimited RT, I’ve not seen that greyed out on any of our systems.

I found my problem. I was working wiht uncompressed Quicktime Video Settings in my sequence Setting. So I change that option to DVCPRO HDp50 because I project is in 960×720.

My next question is… I must work with uncompressed settings or with compressed ones.?

    Thanx
