rs-422 not giving timecode
Hello,
I tried capturing some digi-beta material from sony’s dvw-250 portable deck, and while I can see the video and hear the audio coming in throgh the SDI,I’m not getting any timecode or deck control inside FCP 5 (powermac 2.3).
When I use BMD’s deck control utility, I can control the deck but I don’t get timecode, and I can’t capture video.
I tried changing the settings on the deck from VITC to LTC, and I tried playing with the setting is FCP, but I’m not getting anywhere.Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

i guess there isn’t a solution?? or noone has an idea of what’s going on and how i can fix it…. please help. what’s the point of a capture card that doesn’t control the deck!

Hi,
According to the DVW-250 manual, the serial control port is switchable between Sony 9-pin protocol and RS232. Unfortunately, it does not specify how this is configured. Could this be the reason you’re having trouble? Is there a way to confirm that the deck is indeed switched to using Sony’s 9-pin protocol for its remote control port?

Hi Kristian,
Thanx for the tip. I will check when I have access to the deck again. Is there any kind of test I can run without having an actual deck connected to make sure that the problem isn’t from the card or the cables?
