I have a Multibridge Pro connected to a Sony DigiBeta record deck (DVW-2000) via a serial cable.

Prior to now I’d had no problems controlling it to record, or controlling a J-30SDI to capture.

Now, of course, that I have a deadline, it has stopped working. Final Cut 6.01 reports “No Communication” in the Edit to Tape window when connected to my DVW-2000. Same “No Communication” when connected to my J-30 and the Log and Capture window.

At first I suspected the Multibridge Pro or the cable, but I _CAN_ control the deck from the Multibridge Deck Control utility… play, stop, eject, you name it. So it seems something in FCP is hosed.

I am using the stock Blackmagic NTSC 29.97Hz device control preset. I have also copied that preset and tried other options (different audio channels, LTC+VITC) with no success.

I have emailed Blackmagic but was hoping someone here might have an idea for me. Thanks very much.

PS: this is under Mac OS X 10.4.10, version 6.0 of the Blackmagic drivers.

    Hi Chris,

You should updated to the latest driver from our website. This should sort out the problem.

I installed 6.6.2 (which updated firmware) and I’m still seeing the same problem. FCP reports “no communication,” and Blackmagic Deck Control buttons can control the deck.

I did just notice that the left hand side of the Blackmagic Deck Control window also reports “No Comm.” But, the right-hand buttons control the deck just fine.

I’ll also note that this is using FCP 6.0.1–once this project is done I will upgrade to 10.4.11 and thus to 6.0.4, in case that might be a factor.

    Thanks for any help.

lovely blackmagic. in short reinstall decklink 6.4. i just solved this issue i upgraded to dl 6.6.2 and all went to hell, the firmware update screwed up my rs422 (osx10.4.11 on an apple duo core pcie, fcp6.02, decklink hd pro). i down graded to 6.5.x (didnt work) but 6.4 (with older firmware) seems to be a stable platform with our D5 and hdcamsr.

blackmagic keeps you on your toe’s..

    del

    Chris,

If you put your Mac to sleep, wait about 10 seconds and wake it up again, does that help in anyway?

OK, my device control is working again.

The only thing I apparently did to get things working is to capture some HDV video via HDV Firewire deck control.

I’d forgotten I’d done so, went to see if deck control was working, remembered that it was set to HDV, then switched back to Blackmagic NTSC 29.97 and it was working again.

I’ll note that I _had_ switched deck control settings back and forth to other options in an attempt to get it working again, but I hadn’t actually captured any video with the changed settings.
