When doing maps I often use masks to reveal travel routes and such. I grow the masks with keyframes to follow and expose the curvy paths.

I have tried to use Roving Keyframes with the mask keys but they don’t seem to work. The Inner keys don’t change to the little round dots. In the Graph view… they do change to circles but maintain their bezier handles and don’t act like roving Keys.

Is this something you just can’t do with Mask Shape Key Frames?

    Thanks

    Hey Dave

Thanks for this solution although there are a couple of issues which either I am missing or won’t work.

First and foremost , using the Stroke Effect I don’t see a Brush Position parameter. There is a Start and End Parameter… But no Brush Position. Are we talking about the Basic Stroke Effect? I am using AE v.7.

Secondly, my mask has to move because the background is from a 3D Program and we are tracking across the map, so within the frame the “route” is moving.

I have actually used the Stroke Effect to reveal along a spline but that was in a more locked down 2D world.

I guess the bottom line is that masks CANNOT take advantage of Roving Keys. I will keep experimenting and see if I can come up with a mixed solution.

    Thanks again.

    TAK
