I’m about to start editing a documentary. I prefer working in FCPX (11.1) but I want to use Resolve 20.2 for the AI transcripts, and to do the assembly edit using text editing.

The footage is a two-cam multicam with synced audio (so, each MC clip is 2 video angles with camera audio and one multichannel WAV jam-synced by TC).

I am able to get these multicams into Resolve, create transcripts and edit there BUT when I export this assembly back into FCPX, the attached audio doesn’t work. MC Angles are kept, even the proper links to originals and proxies in FCP are kept, but the audio looks like this (screenshot), instead of the proper original WAV, and indeed doesn’t play or relink.

I tried Decompose in place on the synced audio clip in Resolve but that didn’t help.

Any tips? Maybe just export the source footage as reference files with Burn-in TC, edit in Resolve and then reassemble by hand? I feel like I’m SO close 🙂

I stopped round-tripping to Resolve or Logic because it’s way too wonky. What you have circled is a company clip that doesn’t seem to have any media in it at all.

yeah, it’s a compound clip created by Resolve on import of the XML. It works there but not not when exporting back to FCPX.

You’re right. I’ll assemble the rough cut in Resolve using the transcript and then reassemble it in FCPX. Shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours.

    Thanks!

I use Simon Says in FCP for transcripts. But it’s not “text based editing” sadly.
