i’ve never figured out how to round planes

for example, i have some old english lettering. i would like to make it chrome and metallic. is there a tool that allows me to say pull on the center of a flat section and have it have a rounded face

The magnet tool allows you to do this in a various number of interesting ways

    Structure > Magnet

For the best rounding equilibrium try the Dome mode however there are a few alternatives to choose from.. Set your strength Radius and Width to suit the scale of object and result and your away. Obviously your text must be in editable mode

    Tip.
Real time update will let you see what your current settings are doing.

the magnet tool wants to grab the face of this object and pull it off/distort it.

i have tried selecting the poly of just the4 face i want to round, as well as all the polys

basically i am trying to make 3d filligrees, like what you would see on old silver silverware. i have the outlines, but am trying to make more rounded shapes.

    thanks

That’s mathematically impossible – where there is no geometry, no deformations can occur. You either need subpixel displacement with a proper displacement map or manually have to subdivide your polygons before working on them with the magnet.
