Round Tripping Me Out!!
I know so dramatic huh?
One big project was synced in FCPX and rendered out Proxies as dailies.
The files have their correct clip names, but I am sure the audio does not since it was exported to h264.
Is there any way to use the proxy files (h264) files as assembly edit then somehow switch it to the 8K RED and WAV files?
The client is on the fence with Premiere or Avid for editorial.
I have tried numerous attempts and there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this.
I can easily do all this in FCPX and XML to Resolve (using original files) then Media Manager.
I don’t know if Resolve is in their scope for final edit and I haven’t tested its proxy capability to date.
The biggest mistake with this one is that the audio has no timecode 😛
That was a fun week two weeks for me during production. -

My question would be what do you need to do?
Do you need to make high res assets with attached audio baked in?
Do you need to attach high res video to the original audio?
That is to say, what is finishing going to require?
If they need both high res video and audio as separate sources, you’d have to overcut the high res video to the low res picture, and do the same for audio. It would be pretty tedious work, but possible.
Since the audio and video is now married to a proxy that does not contain the appropriate metadata for audio, it’s going to be nothing short of a manual process. Even if you went to resolve to relink video, you’d have to overcut the audio.

I had all those questions in my head and wish it was that easy.
I have warned the client that with no timecode, its all manual labor.
I have forced them to use FCPX since all SYNC is intact with the original footage.
If they need to travel to Ppro/Avid in the near future then its Resolve to Prpro/Avid export.
Which will break the RED raw trip (unless they go back to Resolve to finish).
Its amazing how a film production can get stupid due to the audio department’s misuse of timecode 😛 -

Yep, thats my go-to when I’m finishing.
It’s these projects where I have no control after my end is done that irks me 😛
I am only doing assembly on this one.
