    Hi there,

I’m trying to generate my titles in Flash, exporting them as an avi. The settings I am using are: 720px x 480px, maintaining aspect ratio, using 16bit color depth and smoothing. The resulting avi file looks great when I view it in Windows Media Player or After Effects 5.5. However once I import the avi file into Premiere 6, the fonts have rough edges.

I get the same results when I export the avi file from flash using 24 bit color, or 32 bit color with alpha.

I even tried exporting the avi file from After Effects and using that one, just to make sure Premiere is importing a file last touched by another Adobe product. But even though the avi file exported from AE looks great in Windows Media Player, it still looks jagged in Premiere.

All the other movie clips I am using in Premiere look great, and they are all 720 x 480. (None of them use text).

I am sure I am making some kind of basic mistake. Does anyone know what it could be?

BTW, I am using Flash to generate my titles simply because it is easier to get the look I want. I need to be able to run dissolves on multiple text elements independently. Plus keeping my titles in one external avi file keeps my Premiere workspace cleaner. But if you know of a better solution for creating these titles, please let me know.

thanks very much for your suggestions.

This sounds like more of a Premier problem (which I abandoned several years ago for Vegas).

But I would venture to guess that its a sizing issue having to do with Premier improperly interpreting your clips pixel aspect ratio.

See if there is a way to force Premier to use 0.9 pixel aspect ratio on your imported clips.

Also, I’d try using Aftereffects for title generation. It has much more robust text handling than Flash.
