Rotoscoping Chatter
Hi I’m new to after effects and have been doing some rotoscoping in a few shots for a short movie I’m making. The shots have a lot of movement an I find myself having to animate the masks for every key frame and this leads me to get a lot of chatter. Does anyone have any tips on how to minimize or avoid this?

1. drop a 29.97 interlaced into a 59.94 composition.
You can now track precision-wise down to field level. This reduces jumps in tracking, roto.2. drop roto comp back into 29.97 comp. turn on Field Render in the Render Settings. Done!
The reason why chatter is reduced is because if you didn’t track field level, you’d be working in a “deinterlaced footage” window with roto work that is interpolated by AE. ewww…

I recount a few tips from Pete O’Connell in this this blog post about rotoscoping. One thing to try to do is to not tweak each vertex on each frame, but instead to try to move the mask as a whole or large sets of mask points together as much as possible.
