    hi guys

    thanks for your time,

this may be a simple question but can the new roto brush CS5 be used to created a mask so the effect can be copied and pasted over solid layer to i.e see a figure dancing instead of the actual person

main: i want to use the rota data from one layer1 as a reference for a second layer2. if that makes sense

layer1: clip of a 3d model spinning on the spot
layer2: (a solid layer) will be set to a blend mode and scroll top to bottom of model

I don’t have cs5 yet, so I don’t know if there is a direct way to do it,
but you can always use your roto-brushed layer as a track matte.

Yes, using the layer on which you’ve applied the Roto Brush effect as a track matte is a good way to accomplish this.

By the way, I strongly urge you to read the documentation and watch the tutorials regarding Roto Brush before jumping in. It is not a beginner tool to be used with learning about it first; it may be one of the trickiest features in After Effects.

    thanks All,

i used the roto brush same time i applied a track matte, i wanted to expand the outlines of the rota brush but couldn’t do it so i just duplicated the layer blurred it and added a glow (like a glowing outline for the 3dmodel)
