    Hi

is it possible to constrain the rotation of a layer to it’s own x y z planes(as opposed to those of the world) when using the imput fields in the timeline, as is possible when manipulating with on screen controlls?

also, what is the difference between rotation and orientation?

    hope that made sense,

    many thanks

    alex

Orientation is used for posing (initial starting position) and rotation is used for animating. Rotation will create revolutions and orientation will result in the shortest distance between two points.

If I understand what you mean about the layers own xyz planes, you can set that at the top of your workspace at the end of the tools palette. You have the options of local, global or view modes by selecting the appropriate icon.

    Good luck.

Now I think I understand what you are asking. I don’t believe it is possible in the Timeline for local manipulation if orientation has been adjusted globally. Only in the Comp Window.
