Rotation issue.
Posted by Matthew Kern on April 3, 2006 at 1:18 amRecently when I just do a simple rotation it dostorts what i am rotating so that the corners are no longer right angles. I am guessing that there is some sort of setting to change this and that I must have changed something on accident. I have looked for this for a while and can’t find anything. Help me please.

April 3, 2006 at 1:52 amThis might happen if you are viewing a non-square pixel comp without using Pixel Aspect Ratio correction. Try clicking the Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction switch, and everything will probably look fine again.
Check the help for “pixel aspect ratio” for more info.

Notice how the right angles of the rectangle are no longer right angles when I totate the object. Also notice that the object’s 3D switch isn’t even on, and there are no cameras. And lastly, notice how skinny the object is at 90 -

April 3, 2006 at 7:39 amI agree with Steve: this must be an aspect ratio issue. What I would do is a couple of tests: within this composition, create a solid about the same size as the Quicktime movie, and rotate it. Does it get squashed? Also, create a new comp from the Quicktime alone, and rotate it there – does it get squashed?
I’m no expert but I’m almost sure that there is a pixel aspect ratio discrepancy among one of the following: the aspect ratio of the original footage (Quicktime), the aspect ratio AE *thinks* is that of the original footage, the AR of your comp and the AR of the preview. Something doesn’t match.
Just guessing, hope that helps.

April 3, 2006 at 11:04 amthe pixel aspect ratio problem is with the image that you are rotating. it is square pixels and if you check the interpretation you should be able to fix it.

April 3, 2006 at 7:46 pmI figured it out. It was a pixel aspect ratio issue, but it wasn’t corrected by changing the pixel aspect ratio preview thing. I just had my composition set to NTSC DV Widescreen, 720×480… instead of just using NTSC DV, 720×480, which is the normal setting for that size comp.
