Rotation at its centre on Y axis
Posted by Jaysri Sridharan on July 1, 2013 at 10:58 amI would like to create a logo rotating at its center on y axis like a head rotating on the shoulders. I have tried track motion, shifting the pivotal point etc in SV Pro 11. But the logo rotates on a wider circle like a sign board rotating. If not SV Pro 11, can Boris Red 4 or BCC 8 help me? Any suggestion is most welcome.

I don’t think you want to change the pivot point since it defaults to the center and you want to to rotate around the center. Just center the logo in the frame and then use Track Motion to resize it and move it into position. Then when you rotate it, it will always rotate from it’s center because it’s still in the center of the track motioned frame.

Sure, no problem:
- Drop the logo onto it’s own track. This will create an event with the logo centered.
- Open Track Motion on the track and select 3D Source Alpha as the Composite Mode (upper left)
- Resize the logo to be the size you want (it defaults to full screen)
- Position the logo in the area of the screen that you want it to be (it defaults to center).
- Keyframe the Rotation Y paramater to make the logo rotate around it’s center. For example an initial keyframe of 0 and an ending keyframe of 360 will make the logo rotate one full turn.
This should produce the desired effect.

July 2, 2013 at 9:33 pmJohn’s commentary is spot-on. However, I’ve made a D/L link to the Sample Text VEG. You can experiment with that.
Download Vegas Pro 11 VEG File

July 3, 2013 at 11:16 amSorry John & Graham,
The settings both of you have given results in a sign board rotation. What I have in mind is the rotation of a Globe or Earth. The following You tube tutorial may best explain what I wanthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0WW-a6fU5M

You would need to purchase the Boris Continuum Complete 3D Objects plug-in to do that in Vegas Pro. Otherwise you’ll need to do that in a 3D program like Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender, etc. and render it out with an alpha channel and bring that back into Vegas. There is no way to have “real” 3D objects with Vegas Pro natively without plug-ins.

July 7, 2013 at 8:15 amDear John,
The help I needed was not about creating a 3D object like a globe or Earth. It is about their rotation on their central axis.To understand my point, I had invited your attention to that you tube clip. Can I have the settings for central axis rotation, Pls. It seems that it depends on “Offset ” settings.
Thanks for your time
