    Hi.

    First, check out this draft of what I’m trying to create: (6,5 MB)

    https://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=T1WR61I8

    I want to create a title scene that consists on a “wall” divided in 6×6 rectangles or panels, that, by rotating, uncover the words.

    In After Effects I created a Grid, and then, by using rectangular masks that coincide more or less with the grid lines, I simulated the grid being really made of panels.

    The problem is that, as you can appreciate in the video, there are some artifatcs, such as a small white line at the left of the first title, or, when rotating, the coincidence of both rotating and non rotating layers, in the anchor point.

    And also, I believe the effect looks too much 2.5D rather than 3D… The panels are completely flat you see.

    So, I wanted to know your ideas for making this look more realistic, preferably doing things in a completely different way. I know how to use some Blender, or maybe there are better ways to do the same inside AfterFx.

    I would be very grateful for any answer on the topic, even if you don’t solve my problem…

    Anyway, regards,

    Alfonso

    there’s many ways to extrude but off the top of my head, you could try trapcode with primitive 3-D shape rectangle then add video to it.
    and I would strongly suggest using a 3-D light to give it depth.

    Thanks for the tip, Chris, but I haven’t got that plugin… 🙁

    See if you can remember other technique

    Thanks =)

    1. Adobe Illustrator extrude rectangle, then import into AE
    2. Cinema 4d extrude
    3. Maya extrude
    4. no plugins or software, use a Null object, set 6 solids to rect. shape, then parent Null to layer transform with pick whip.
