Room noise
Posted by Jason on October 30, 2005 at 1:50 amHow can I sample room noise in my audio tracks and cancel it out? I sampled the ambient room noise the day of the shoot.

October 30, 2005 at 5:56 amYou need Audition to do that. Have a look at this Tutorial on the COW:

October 30, 2005 at 9:17 pmAlthough two random white-noise sources will average toward zero when you add them, I doubt that adding two sound tracks has a useful result. Put the room sample on a separate track and play with the gain to see if you can hear an improvement.
It’s probably more beneficial to play with the filters in Audio Effects. I find the notch filter great for removing air conditioner hum in auditoriums, for instance. Bandpass is useful for quiet times, but usually detracts seriously from content if you use it when there is any.

October 31, 2005 at 8:34 pmNoise reduction works great in audition if you have a sample of room tone. Just curious, in most situations it actually works better to just “lay down” room tone under a whole scene so that room tone doesn’t change with each cut.
