rolling lines on footage

What caused the lines? Did you video a computer screen? I would get a copy of the source presentation and export it as a series of images and create a slide show from it in Vegas Pro. This will give you the best quality.

Hi john,
do you how sometimes a TV camera would have a shot of a room, and in the room is a tv and the picture on the TV is never clear it is always rolling up and down, well like that! I was just wondering was there a filter available that might tone down the rolling? over 200 powerpoint slides so I would rather no go down that road. many thanks for your help on this John

Yes, I know what you are talking about. It’s caused by the refresh sync of the computer monitor not being the same as that of the camera’s electronic shutter. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any plug-ins that can fix this.

You might want to try Boris FX BCC Flicker Fixer but this will just fix the light flicker. It won’t erase the sync line that rolls down the screen.

I’ll have a go at why. When shooting interlace on my DV Canon I had a CLEAR SCAN setting just for countering this issue. Can you reshoot? Have you got a clear scan option on your camera? Cure? I’m almost sure there isn’t one. However, how much of this footage do you need to correct? If it is a moderate amount (?) then you can, I have, mask out the offending footage on the monitor, and replace with either a still of anything or maybe a time-stretched piece of the offending scan lines. How relevant is the monitor footage to the narrative?

I’ve just re-read my XF300 User Manual and there is a CLEAR SCAN option too.

How to make PP interesting? This is an oxymoron! But I like a challenge. However, is this what is wanted by the client?

I indeed understand your dilemma flaherty, and unfortunately there is
no on click solution or plugin to fix that, your best option is by masking
as how Graham explained it, hopefully you had the camera on a tripod to
make the masking process easier!

All that masking and stretching sounds like a lot more work than just making a slide show from the original presentation.

One solution is to watch the video and drop a marker at each slide change. Then buy my VASST Still Motion plug-in ($9.95 USD) and use the Place Events at Markers options and it will place a new slide at each marker for the duration of the next marker. This shouldn’t take long at all at all and will be very high quality.

I agree the plug-in is a good way to go as long as the only thing in the video image is the PP. Otherwise, the only obvious solution is to display the screen capture over the video. I don’t think a mask is needed. You can simply superimpose screen captures from the PP.

Guys thanks so for much for the help and advice, I am going to insert the original PP slides over the footage (jpegs) simplest way forward for me, although probally not the quickest.
