    Hey,

There are so many ways to approuch this one… I’m not sure how you want it to happen but you have to make sure the face is locked off completly. So there isn’t head tilting or anything like that, it’ll throw the shot out. Once you have your rock face footage, then look at mixmodes. then use a mask to feather the face into the rock. then for added realizm you might want to look at using a displacement mask of either the rock texture onto the face or the face onto the rock .. either way it’ll give it a more IN THE SCENE kinda look.

Apart from that .. it should work a treat, just make sure the face doesn’t tilt, it can speak and so on but you should really have the face completly locked off .. Mm, hope that helps you think in the right direction .. Good luck.

    Thanx for the reply hunz
i understand the part of using a displacment map of a rock and use it
but will that make it appear as the face turning slowly into a rock one?
is that the same aproch with ice?
    thanx

well, it would give the illusion that the face is the rock. For turning a face into a rock or a rock into a face, you would have to use a morph made famous on micahel jacksons black or white clip. It’s pretty easy, you can use lquify/mesh warp and have a mess around with taht for a morph.

I would try the morphing as suggested. Another idea is to create your rock/ice face and use a gradient wipe transition to reveal it over your real face. Generate some fractal noise to use as the gradient.

    Hey,

Sorry I don’t know of any tuts that might help you out. But play around with it, I am sure you’ll get the hang of it. There are some plugins that do morphs too, a lot easier then flex does .. https://www.revisionfx.com/rflx.htm re:flex it’s called. Anyways hope that helps, flex has some tuts set up as well ..

Is your rock face going to be moving, talking etc. or is it going to be still? (Basically, is it going to be a talking statue or someone turning into ice?)
If it’s someone turning into stone or ice then just create a stone (or ice) version of your person (in their final position) in Photoshop. (There are some tutorials on this available on the web including this one from Worth1000.
Then all you have to do is transition somehow from the live person to the statue.

That would be the simplest way to do it. If you want it to look realistic (as much as a human being turning into stone can be considered real…) then you’ll have to have quite a few frames of StoneIce person to transition into so you’ll have some movement.

You can check in your manual or the help files for how to do a gradient transition like I mentioned.
