Use the formula deformer on a plane. The default formula will create exactly what you need – a concentric ripple. Alternatively use the Ripple shader on your material.

I did both, created an animated bump map that worked well, but with the formula how do i start the ripple and have it die off before it reaches the end of the plane?

You’d need to add a multiplier to the sinus along the X and Z direction based on distance. That’s probably a bit too complex for what you need to do so it’s probably best to stick with the materila approach. ;O)

I’d like to learn how to do that, if you don’t mind explaining it to me, i would greatly appreciate it!
