Hello, just wondering how to use ripple edit when you’re simply moving clips and not trimming them? The tool is X’ed out when I position it over the body of the clip. I’m assuming it’s possible, it’s such a basic and critical function. Thanks

See this page for how to do a ripple delete.

Is that what you’re looking for?

Hi Todd, thanks for the reply. No, I meant rippling clips when you simply move a clip (not trim or delete). I’ve since deduced that that’s what the “track” tool does. It only seems to work on one track at a time though, which is problematic. In Vegas for example the ripple edit tool applies to trimming or moving or deleting, and it operates on all tracks at once. Is there anything analogous in Premiere? Thanks

I have the same problem I think. I want to move all the footage forward from a certain point to fit in a piece between without losing the current arrangement of audio-video

To clarify do you want to place a clip between two other clips for instance?

If you want to do that drag the clip onto the timeline where you want it between the others whilst holding Ctrl and release. The clips following it will be moved forward. You can even do this partway along a clip and it will split it and move the rest forward. Everything else will be intact.

I’ve done a quick test project using some footage I had already and it works fine as far as I can tell.
    Hope this helps.
