  • Ripping then Editing footage from a DVD

    Hi there,

I’ve been forced to rip footage from DVD for a documentary I’m editing.

I’ve been using Handbrake to rip MPeg4 files before bringing them into FCP5.

I’ve been told that MPeg4 is not an editing format and this explains why I need to render everytime I place it, move it or edit it on my timeline.

Any tips on how to deal with this footage would be very gratefully received.

Should I convert the MPeg4 footage to another format before editing? If so how?
Or should I be ripping the DVD footage to a different format? Or with different software?

Will I always have problems using footage ripped from a DVD?

Any thoughts on this would be very useful,

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris
