    hi

    I have:
    FCP 5
    17″ power mac laptop
    over 300 Gbs

I’ve been able to rip a cple DVDs to quicktime(ready for FCP) but some are not responding.

I use Mac The Ripper to rip the ts files, then take the TS files into DVDxDVPro to male the quicktime….

Some DVDs work NICe and some not so great and I don’t know why….I believe I’m doing all the steps right,,,,but sometimes the DVD quicktime (made from the DVDxDVpro) does not open…I know I have GOOD tS files becasue I can play them in the DVD player on my laptop.

    can anyone help?

    thanks

Well (under pressure from Hollywood) European legislation made it illegal to use the mentioned software, even if we had the right to single private copies before.

Apart from that, the initial question didn’t really sound like this is meant for fully legal purposes. Remember, this is a forum with many professionals who make their income from producing video and who suffer from pirating. I think it’s quite understandable that we don’t welcome such questions.

Copyright infringement is a crime no matter how you look at it.

Illegal acts will not be respected or granted on the Cow as it is not in their best interest to assist with advice which violates established copyright law in numerous countries worldwide.

So please just moo along to the next pasture where such BS might be acceptable.

    Best of luck,

..But if you are working legal, try MPGStreamclip to process the .VOBs of the Video_TS folder.
    Salud and happy 2007.

Shane’s response was exactly what your query deserved. You obviously want to rip DVD’s which have encryption on them which means they are not to be copied by the end user in any way. This is an illegal act and we have zero tolerance for this type of behavior on the Cow.

If you have true questions for how to operate Final Cut Pro in a legal manner, we’re always happy to help. For sidestepping the law, there are thousands of other sites out there.

[Dave LaRonde] “Go suck an egg.”

Go Suck an egg? Wow, there’s a classic I haven’t heard in a long time. As Chris Berman would say on ESPN, “there’s one from the Way Back machine.” Thanks for the laugh!

[Dave LaRonde] “I once read an interview with Mel Brooks. In so many words it said, “If your punch line has lots of g’s and k’s in it, it’s going to be funnier. It’ll sound more vulgar, too.””

Anybody who quotes Mel Brooks is a top-notch guy in my book.

    [Dave LaRonde] “Hmmm….
    Berman….
    ESPN….
going to Syracuse is like playing on ESPN’s farm team…
Chris Berman wouldn’t also happen to be an SU grad, would he?”

You know, that’s a good question. I’m class of ’89 and met Bob Costas a few times when he came to speak to various classes. One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, he spent hours answering questions and just shooting the breeze.

I’ll have to look him up and find out where he went to school. ESPN has my favorite commercial of all times with the classic SportsCenter ad with everyone challenging Charlie Steiner to a boxing match. He ignores all of them until the end when the SU Orange challenges him and he decks it with one swing. LOVE it!
