  • “ripping” DVD’s into FCP?

Posted by Tad Newberry on May 7, 2006 at 10:07 pm

my client has permission to use some clips from an otherwise copyrighted DVD, but how do i get the specific shots and scenes from the Audio_TS and Video_TS folders? is there any way to get FCP to do this, or do i need some other ripping software???

thanks for helping out a bonehead,

I’ve found that Cinematize works really well…

Of course, if it’s a copy protected DVD, you’ll have to use Mac The Ripper before you use the above mentioned apps.

thanks. i downloaded them both and it seems that DVDxDV only wants to work with “iDVD-created” DVD’s. i just get a few blocky-green-jumbled frames from my Hollywood movie. It works good on the corporate DVD’s that i’ve produced though.

MPEG Streamclip seems to to work then, says “File open error: the first part of the file is not valid”. Am i skewered?

thanks for helping out a bonehead,

Just for the record, irrespective of the fact that your client has permission to use the clips, they most definitely do *not* have permission to circumvent Macrovision copy protection – you should bear this in mind when posting on a public forum.

Where does one read and learn more about “The Ripper”.
